INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT #238
The Board of Education of Independent School District #238 met on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at 6:00 pm in the Media Center.
Members present in person: Adkins, Miller, Marquardt, Wilder, Weidemann, Livingood,
Tollefsrud, Superintendent Kuphal
Also present in person: Principal Weidemann, Rich Wicks, District Secretary Lisa Halverson, Student Representative Emily Carolan, Lori Schutte, Stacey Wilson
Absent: Student Representative Matt McClimon
The meeting was called to order by Chair Adkins at 6:00 pm. The Pledge of Allegiance was said.
Motion by Marquardt, second by Livingood and carried unanimously, to approve the revised agenda adding Item IX F-Committee Assignments and removing Redefining Readiness Presentation.
Motion by Livingood, second by Weidemann and carried unanimously, to approve the December 21, 2021 minutes and January 11, 2022 minutes.
Consent Agenda: Motion by Tollefsrud, second by Weidemann and carried unanimously, to approve the following, with a special thank you for the donation:
A. 2021-22 Budget
B. Claims Report
C. Donation: Amplifier from Aron Dahl
Student Report: Spelling Bee competition was held last Thursday.
-7th-12th grade students will be attending the Spider-Man movie in Spring Grove
this Thursday for end of Quarter 2 Rewards Day – Thank you to the Lion’s Club
for purchasing these movie tickets!
– No school for students this Friday
Committee Reports:
The Policy Committee will review the annual policies and report back next month.
The COVID-19 Committee reported on the latest MSHSL rules.
Principal Report: Spelling Bee winners:
1st Place – Garrett Peter, 5th Grade – will attend Regional Competition in Rochester
2nd Place – Kaci Wangsness, 6th Grade
3rd Place – Shawn Swenson, 8th Grade
Superintendent Report: Gary updated the group on the MSBA conference he attended last week and the Superintendents program he attended yesterday and today.
Enrollment was reviewed.
Items for Action and/or Discussion:
A.Motion by Marquardt, second by Wilder and carried unanimously, to table the
Pay Equity Report until corrections are made.
B.Motion by Livingood, second by Wilder and carried unanimously, to approve the
revised 2021-22 school calendar. Michelle will inform families of these changes.
C.Motion by Wilder, second by Weidemann and carried unanimously, to approve
the Junior class’ fundraising request.
D.No changes were made to the current Return to School Plan at this time.
E.Motion by Livingood, second by Tollefsrud and carried unanimously, for the
Negotiations Committee and Gary to meet and discuss possible Superintendent
options for the 2022-23 school year and bring back in February for a final
decision.
F.Motion by Livingood, second by Tollefsrud and carried unanimously, to leave
committee assignments as is.
