MINUTES REGULAR MEETING OF THE SCHOOL BOARD

INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT #239

The regular meeting of the Rushford-Peterson School District #239 was called to order by Chairperson Chris Grindland at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, December 20, 2021 in the Rushford-Peterson Schools Forum Room.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Members Present: Chris Grindland, Matt Helgemoe Joyce Iverson, Jeff Michel, Ken Sawle, Carl Schollmeier and Amy Woxland.

Members absent: None

Administration Present: Superintendent Jon Thompson, Angela Shepard

District Personnel: Laura Hahn, Toni Oian

Motion by Michel, seconded by Iverson to adopt the agenda as presented. Motion carried unanimously.

There were no public comments.

Motion by Woxland, seconded by Schollmeier to approve the following consent agenda items: December 8, 2021 Special Meeting Minutes, November 15, 2021 Regular Monthly Meeting Minutes, Donations in the amount of $750, November hand payables, wires & payroll liabilities in the amount of $364,256.81, November payroll in the amount of $310,716.48, December board bills in the amount of $170,578.08, Fund Summary Reports as of 11/30/2021; PERSONNEL: Resignation of Missy Fahrendholz – Paraprofessional, Hires: Patty McAllister – Long-term Sub – Second Grade, Becky Bunke – Foodservice Assistant, Karen Young – Foodservice Assistant, Helen Carney – Foodservice Assistant, Kary Mueller-Schansberg – Substitute Paraprofessional, Annika Culver – Substitute Paraprofessional / Teacher. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Iverson, seconded by Sawle to approve the General Obligation School Building Bond payment, payable to Bond Trust Services in the amount of $2,107,250 [$1,610,000 Principal | $497,250 Interest] to be paid as a hand payable prior to the next regular board meeting in January. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Iverson, seconded by Woxland to approve the first reading of the early retirement incentive guidelines for 2021-2022. With a roll call vote of 7:0, motion carried unanimously.

Superintendent Thompson presented the Superintendent’s report.

Motion by Michel, seconded by Schollmeier to adjourn the regular meeting and go into the Special Truth-in-Taxation Public meeting at 6:15 p.m. Motion carried unanimously.

Toni Oian, Business Manager presented information on 2021 Levy, payable in 2022. Mr. Thompson presented additional information.

Public comments: Nancy Snyder asked for clarification on the programs being offered through Community Education.

Motion by Sawle, seconded by Helgemoe to certify the final Levy Certification 2021 Payable 2022 in the amount of $2,011,891.63. With a roll call vote of 7:0, motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Iverson, seconded by Michel to adjourn the Special Truth-in-Taxation Public meeting and go back into the regular meeting at 6:50 p.m. Motion carried unanimously.

Discussion on recording the board meetings. No vote was taken. The consensus was to keep the same protocol.

The Elementary Principal and MS/HS Principal reports and highlights from Community Education were all reviewed.

There was a brief discussion regarding student board representatives. Amy Woxland recommended that student council members be considered.

Motion by Schollmeier, seconded by Woxland, to adjourn the regular meeting at 7:03 p.m.  Motion carried unanimously.
