Mervin L. Heidtke, age 86, of Fountain, Minn., died on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at Mayo Clinic Hospital – St. Marys Campus in Rochester, Minn.
Mervin Louis Heidtke was born June 15, 1936, to Erna (Busitzky) and Walter Heidtke in Fountain, Minn. He graduated from Wykoff High School in 1954, and joined the U.S. Army after graduation. On May 13, 1956, Mervin married Carol Wolfe; to this union two children were born. From 1954 to 1957, Mervin served in the Army as military police stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. After he was discharged, he farmed for 30 years then worked at Strongwell in Chatfield for 25 years.
Mervin was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed sharing his passion for fishing with his grandson. Mervin also liked cooking, dancing, and playing games on his computer. His greatest pleasure in life were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved to keep up on all their activities.
Mervin is survived by his wife of 66 years, Carol Heidtke of Fountain, Minn.; daughter Deb (Jim) Schott of Fountain, Minn.; two grandchildren: Justin (Jill) Schott of Evansville, Wis., and Heidi (Chad) Miller of Rochester, Minn.; five great-grandchildren: Dane, Bennett, and Ella Miller and Nolan and Hudson Schott; sister-in-law Bonita Heidtke of Fountain, and brother-in-law Richard (Linda) Wolfe of Preston, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Brian, two brothers, Ray (Bunice) Heidtke and Harold Heidtke; and sister Mary Ann Heidtke.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Fountain Lutheran Church, with Pastor Kerry Eversole and Deacon Cindy Eversole officiating. Burial with military honors will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery Wykoff in spring of 2023.
