Merlin and Lila Jameson Scholarship announced

April 10, 2017 by Fillmore County Journal

The Foundation for Rushford-Peterson Schools is happy to announce the establishment of the Merlin and Lila Jameson Scholarship.  The Jameson family (Scott, Mark, Craig, and Lance) wishes to embrace their parents’ lifelong philosophy of always giving back to their school and community.  Establishing a scholarship in their memory is a tribute to Merlin and Lila’s lifelong mission of giving back and recognizing the good in others.

Merlin and Lila were lifelong residents of the Rushford area.  They were active supporters of the Rushford-Peterson Schools, student activities, and young adults pursuing their aspirations.  Merlin and Lila shared values with many in this community that support and encourage individuals to be their best and provide acts of kindness to others.  They recognized that these characteristics make meaningful differences in single moments and lifetimes.  As a thank you to wonderful friends and to recognize talented young adults, this scholarship is given to a graduating senior in an effort to pay-it-forward to a community that has been so generous.

Graduating seniors who are planning on pursuing a post-secondary education are eligible for the $2,000 scholarship. Nominations will be accepted from the public (e.g., teacher, coach, community member, school employee, and student) that has observed or experienced the positive influence that a graduating senior has had on others.

Scholarship recipients will receive $1,000 their freshman year and the second award of $1,000 for their junior year of study.  The award will be given after the recipient shares an update on their post-graduation activities that demonstrate continued efforts to be a positive influence by providing acts of kindness, encouragement, and/or support to others.

The Foundation for the Rushford-Peterson Schools is extremely grateful to the Jameson family and appreciates the opportunity to assist the family in establishing this scholarship as a lasting legacy for Merlin and Lila.
