According to Fillmore County Sheriff John DeGeorge, at least three tornados were reported to have touched down in western Fillmore County on Memorial Day afternoon, the first confirmed at 1:39 pm. The first tornado appears to have started in Howard County, Iowa, traveling northeast through York Township, Minn. At least four farm sites sustained damage to buildings. The Sheriff’s Office has received no reports of injuries to people or livestock. Some homes sustained minor wind and tree damage. Total damage estimates are not available at this time, Fillmore County Emergency Management officials will work to evaluate storm damage.
This storm developed quickly. The Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind residents to be mindful of the potential for severe weather, and have a safety plan in place for you and your family.
