Meet the Candidates: Donivee Johnson Candidate for City of Canton Mayor

October 12, 2020 by Fillmore County Journal

City of Canton Mayor

Tell us about yourself.

I have lifelong ties to Canton having been born and raised here. I graduated from Canton High School in the last class before the school consolidated with Mabel. My work history includes Northwest Airlines, Mabel Co-op Telephone Co., Cenex Harvest States and the U.S. Postal Service. I have been retired for 10 years.

I was appointed to fill a council seat in 1993. In the 1996 election cycle I was elected mayor.

Why are you running for office?

A year and a half ago we began a transitional phase of reorganizing the clerk/treasurer’s office with changes in personnel and procedures. We have made great strides in the right direction but there is still some work to be done. I would like to continue for another term to assist in completing that transition.

What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected?

If re-elected I will continue to work with the council members and personnel to implement the necessary technological advancements, ordinance enforcement procedures, utility billing procedures, reorganizing the process of records retention of historical information for easier access and reviewing current contracts for outside services for the community.
