Maynard I. Rustad

November 6, 2023 by Fillmore County Journal

Maynard I. Rustad, 83, of Rushford, died Thursday, November 2, 2023 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home.

Maynard was born September 9, 1940, in Rushford to Clarence and Helen (Overby) Rustad.  He graduated from Rushford High School in 1958.  Maynard worked until his retirement as a field surveyor for Tri County Electric.  On November 12, 1977, he married Sharon Thompson.

Maynard was a member of Highland Prairie Lutheran Church and served as an usher since he was a young man.  He was very active in the Rushford Lions Club and served as treasurer for many years.  He also received their highest award, the Melvin Jones award.  Maynard was a former member of the Rushford Fire Department.

He was a farmer at heart and truly loved farming.  He enjoyed sports, especially football, basketball and track.  His family and especially his grandkids were his pride and joy.  There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for them, and if he wasn’t able to attend one of their sporting events, he made sure to talk to them about it afterwards and get the play by play.  Maynard was especially proud of his Norwegian heritage.

He is survived by his wife Sharon, children Mia (Mike) Krause of Shakopee, Angela (Jim) Smith of Fayetteville, N. C., Chanel Carlson of West St. Paul and Brandon Rustad of Rushford; grandchildren Maggie, Mason, Noah, Siri, Kia and Malia; brother Curtis (Carol) Rustad, sister Judy (Ken) Klennert, special cousin Gary (Nancy) Rustad, sisters-in-law Joan (Mike) Contezac and Mark (Sue) Thompson, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Maynard was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial service will be 1 p.m., Monday, November 13, 2023, at Highland Prairie Lutheran Church with the Reverend Peter Reuss officiating.  Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Sunday, November 12, 2023, at Hoff Funeral & Cremation Service – Rushford and one hour prior to the service at the church.  He will be laid to rest at Rushford Oak Grove Cemetery.

Hoff Funeral & Cremation Service – Rushford is assisting the family with arrangements.  www.hofffuneral.com.
