Marvin H. Gehling, age 75, of Grand Meadow, Minn., passed away peacefully at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn., on Friday May 10, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Marvin Henry Gehling was born December 5, 1948, to Clarence and Florence (Kraus) Gehling in Carroll, Iowa. He graduated from Grand Meadow High School in 1966 and attended Austin Area Vocational-Technical School until 1968.
In 1968 Marvin met Linda Evers. They were married on May 10, 1969, at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha, Minn. They lived in Spring Valley, Minn., where Marvin worked at Atwood Motors which later became Peterson Motors. In 1973 Marvin and Linda moved to a farm north of Grand Meadow, Minn., where he farmed with his dad and brother. Marvin also worked for Gehling Auction Co. from the early 1980s until 2000. He farmed until his retirement in 2009 but continued to help his son Eric farm until the time of his death. Marvin served on the Spring Valley Fire Department, he served as trustee for St Finbarr Catholic Church and also served on St Finbarr’s building committee. Marvin liked to spend time and talking with his grandkids, he enjoyed their interests. Together Marvin and Linda enjoyed traveling and he truly enjoyed visiting with everyone they met. He also liked looking at old classic cars, especially Ford Mustangs.
Marvin is survived by his wife Linda of Grand Meadow, four sons: Chad (Michelle) Gehling of St Cloud, Minn., Troy (Denice) Gehling, Eric (Jenny) Gehling, and Kyle (Tara) Gehling, all of Grand Meadow; eight grandchildren: Andrew, Tori, Jasen, Ross, Kelsea, Trevor, Ashton and Kaylee; brothers: Ron (Lanna) Gehling of Preston and Wayne (Carol) Gehling of Grand Meadow, Minn., sister Elaine (Jim) Hegge of Oregon, Ill., “adopted granddaughter” Cheyenne Bergan and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Florence Gehling, father and mother-in-law Harry and Bernice Evers, granddaughter Caitlyn, brothers-in-law John, Rich, Dan and Bob; and aunts and uncles.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Grand Meadow Ambulance, Grand Meadow Fire and Rescue, or St. Jude’s in his name.
Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at St. Finbarr Catholic Church in Grand Meadow, with Father Marreddy Pothireddy officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at St. Finbarr Catholic Church. Recitation of the rosary will be at 3:30 p.m. at the church. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
