Marlys Jean Johnson

June 4, 2025 by Fillmore County Journal Leave a Comment

Marlys Johnson obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Marlys Jean Johnson, a beloved mother, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025. Known for her adventurous spirit and forward-looking nature, Marlys lived a life filled with love, exploration, and cherished memories.

She shared countless driving trips and family adventures with her husband Jim. Together, they traversed the scenic routes and unplanned hidden gems, creating memories that would last a lifetime. Marlys’ love for travel extended beyond the road trips with Jim, as she also embarked on journeys abroad with family and friends, including a whirlwind excursion to Europe with her daughter’s family.

Marlys was devoted to her family and you could find her assisting her children’s families with all household duties (like eight loads of laundry!) and being present with her grandkids in all of their activities and in genuinely sincere conversations with them.

Marlys is survived by her loving children: Justin (Lea) and Janna (Brendan), whom she was so proud of. Her grandchildren, Sophia, Lydia, Ada, Anders and Ansel, were her greatest treasures, and she spent her last months surrounded by their laughter and love. Marlys’ final wish was to be enveloped in the warmth of her family, a blessing that her children and grandchildren were fortunate to fulfill.

Marlys is also survived by siblings Sandy (Dale) Rasmussen, Wayne (Jolene) Rye, and Mary (Jeff) Darr.

Her husband Jim, and her parents Ervin and Shirley Rye preceded her in death.

A celebration of life will be held at Rushford Lutheran Church on June 16, 2025 in Rushford, Minn. Visitation 9-11 a.m., service at 11 a.m. with luncheon and fellowship to follow.
