Happy Week of the Young Child! Since we will not be able to celebrate like we usually do all together due to COVID-19, I would like to encourage all families, but especially our Mabel-Canton families with young children, to make something special for your doors or windows and decorate our neighborhoods and communities with projects made by our little people. Here is a little bit of information about our programs at Mabel-Canton.
ECFE (Early Childhood Family Education)
Our ECFE program offers several Family Fun Night events during the month where parents and children come and interact together. We kick it off in the fall with a family scarecrow night at the park and travel to the Mabel Fire Station to celebrate Fire Safety month in October. In November, we host a pizza and bingo night for families and in December have a holiday event for families. During the winter, we kick off with traveling to the Mabel Public Library for a Pajama Night party. Other winter/spring events usually include a Pizza and Gym Night, Dad and Me Building Night, an Egg Hunt and we end our year with Muffins for Moms & Donuts for Dads event.
We also offer a Friday morning playgroup twice a month where parents and daycare providers are welcomed to come into the early childhood classroom with their children and interact, make a craft and enjoy circle, story and snack. In the fall, we are excited to offer a night playgroup one Monday evening each month.
Friday playgroup date (9:30-11 a.m.): May 8
On Friday mornings twice a month, parents and daycare providers are invited to come to the early childhood classroom between 9:30 and 11 a.m. for a playgroup. Children and parents can play with the toys and other learning materials available and make a craft. A light snack is served and we end our time together with a short story. The fee for playgroup is $3 child. If you are a daycare provider, ask for a group rate!
Pre–K and Preschool Classes
We are proud to be a Minnesota Parent Aware Program. We currently offer a Kindergarten Readiness (4/5-year-olds) where the students meet either two or three times a week. Our Kindergarten Readiness Programs uses Big Day for Pre-K and we visit the school library once a week.
We also offer a Preschool class twice a week in the morning for 3/4-year-olds. Registration for the 2020-2021 school year will be offered first to the currently enrolled students and then new students and their families are encouraged to attend an open house/registration night, which will be held in May if we are back in session. Registration will be located in the early childhood classroom. There is a non-refundable registration fee due at the time of registration.
