Lyle Johnson obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Lyle E. Johnson, 83, of Rushford, Minn., died on Friday June 20, 2025.

He was born on February 27, 1942, to Erlyn and Luella Johnson of Highland, rural Lanesboro. Lyle was a graduate of Lanesboro High School in 1960 where his two favorite subjects were Industrial Arts and Agriculture and he earned All-Conference Honors playing football as a guard. He attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis for one year study of auto mechanics. He was employed by Miller Chevrolet and later owned and operated LJs Standard Station and then begin LJs Sand and Gravel for a number of years. During this time, he was a volunteer firefighter for Rushford and a 6-year member of the U.S. Army Reserve Unit in Wabasha, serving as a mechanic. Later in life he drove semi-truck for Caledonia Haulers and his last job was driving for Hammel Implement transporting Case IH combines and tractors from Nebraska and Wisconsin to Minnesota.

Lyle was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church, Highland of rural Lanesboro with the exception of a few years when he was a member of Rushford Lutheran Church. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Highland.

He is survived by his son Jed, grandson Dalton, and brother Dean and (Debbie) Johnson of Willmar.

He was preceded in death by Baby Boy Johnson, his parents Erlyn and Luella Johnson, and his grandparents Rudolph and Lilly Johnson and Ludvig and Ida Flattum.

We are deeply grateful for the care and concern that Gundersen Hospice and Lyle’s very good friend Dianne Shaw-Cummins provided for him.

A memorial service will be held for Lyle on Friday, June 27, 2025, at 1 p.m. with visitation at 12 noon at First Lutheran Church of Highland, rural Lanesboro. He will be committed at the church cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the First Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund. Lyle is entrusted to the care of Hoff Funeral Home, Rushford, Minn.
