LuVerne Frank Barth, 87, of Chatfield, Minn., passed away on June 12, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.
LuVerne was born on February 22, 1937, to Lorenze and Helen (Reynolds) Barth. LuVerne was born in Preston and graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1955. On September 21, 1963, he married Margaret Mary Sullivan at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Chatfield. Verne and Maggie settled on their farm in rural Chatfield, where they made their home for 60 years. He served in the Army National Guard from 1960-1966. Verne worked at IBM in Rochester for 31 years, retiring in 1991. Verne farmed during his time at IBM and then followed his true passion and love full time, “playing in the dirt” until the end. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Saratoga Township Clerk for many years, served as a Winona County Fire Warden, was a St. Charles Moose Club member, and was an 8-gallon blood donor at Mayo Clinic. He loved traveling, road trips, restoring Allis-Chalmers D-15 tractors, cheering on the Green Bay Packers, fishing, boating, spending time with family and friends at the lake, Wednesday night round tables at the Moose Lodge, his yearly trip to Irish Fest in Milwaukee, Wis., and hosting the Barth family reunion and camp out.
He is survived by his wife Maggie, children Jeff of New Brighton, Dennis (Cindy) of Chatfield, Carrie of Lino Lakes, Stacy (Mike) of North Mankato, and Eric (Heather) of Grand Rapids; 11 grandchildren: Dylan (Veronica), Nolan (Cora), Emily, Nick, Sara, Abby, Lucas, Devin, Sophia, Teigan, and Rowan; Three great-grandchildren: Addison, Claire (Dylan-Veronica), and baby girl Barth (Nolan-Cora); sisters Pat Oviatt and Gayle Leibfried, sister-in-law Pauline Barth, Mikkel, and Lena Windel Krogh, and family of Roskilde, Denmark.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Charles and Gerald Barth, sister Marion Boeke, and brothers-in-law Vic Oviatt and Kenny Leibfried.
A funeral Mass for LuVerne will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Chatfield with the Reverend Edward McGrath officiating. Burial in the church cemetery will follow. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Monday at Hoff Funeral Service in St. Charles and one hour before services at the church. Military graveside honors will be conducted at the cemetery.
