Loretta Ann Trulson, age 78, died peacefully at her home on May 14, 2025, due to Lewy Body dementia and Parkinson’s.
Visitation will be on Monday June 23, 2025, at 11 a.m., followed by a celebration of life service at 12 noon, with a lunch served immediately after, all at Daniel Funeral Home, 1010 2nd St. North, St. Cloud, Minn.
It was her wish to be cremated. She will be buried in the Trulson Family plotted area at the Fillmore Cemetery in Fillmore, Minn., on July 26, 2025, at 1 p.m. Family and friends are invited.
Loretta was born in Marshall, Minn., on May 15, 1947. She grew up in Marshall, with her parents Peter and Mary Longtin (Pohlen) and her three brothers and three sisters. She attended Holy Redeemer Grade School and Central Catholic High School in Marshall, Minn. She attended University of Minnesota and St. Cloud College, graduating in 1970, earning a BA in Business. She later achieved a Master’s in Business from Cardinal Stritch University in 1992.
Loretta was the director of Montessori School in St. Cloud for two years. This provided tuition for her two sons, Constantine and Marios, to attend the school. She worked full time at Kmart in Marketing and Human Resources for eight years and from 1989 to 2014 she was the HR director for Stearns Manufacturing and Coleman Company in Sauk Rapids, Minn. She was very active in Central Minnesota Society for Human Resource Management (CMSHRM), holding several officer positions. She retired in 2014. She enjoyed and greatly respected the Stearns Manufacturing leadership team colleagues and many friends.
Loretta married Theophanis Hortis in 1969, and gave birth to two sons, Constantine Alexander Hortis and Marios Nicholas Hortis who were loved and mothered with all her might and joy. She and Theo divorced in 1982. She married Kent K. Trulson in 1990, who had a daughter, Angela E.L. Trulson.
Loretta loved to travel, making many trips to Greece, to Europe once with her sister JoAnn, traveling with Kent to Mexico many times, Panama Canal, Columbia, Puerto Rico, Norway and many other travels. She always enjoyed and shared with others her sons’ and stepdaughter’s accomplishments.
Loretta was always ready for adventure and new experiences. She went bear hunting, dog sledding, motorcycle riding as a passenger, ATV and snowmobile riding, glide plane riding, horseback trail riding, and competed in a trap shooting league.
In 2020 she was diagnosed with Lewy body dementia and Parkinson’s. She loved and deeply appreciated her compassionate personal caregiver, Edwina Brown and caregivers from Home Instead Senior Care, until her passing. Her best friend forever, Rose, was central to her joy.
Loretta is survived by her husband Kent K. Trulson, son Constantine “Tyke” “Alex” Alexander Hortis (Kaela and granddaughter Sarafina Loretta Hortis); and stepdaughter Angela E.L. Trulson (Cameron Mulcahy). Additionally, she is survived by her sisters JoAnn Baum (Michael), Jan Knofczynski, Colleen Murphy (Dennis), brother Jeffrey Longtin, five nieces, six nephews, and many cousins.
She is preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents, uncles and aunts, brothers Donald Longtin and David Longtin, her parents Peter and Mary Longtin (Pohlen), nephew Brad Longtin, and son Marios Nicholas Hortis.
