Lion Girls Take Two, Drop Three at Showcase

Spring Grove, with two wins and three losses, placed 10th among 16 team at the Class A Volleyball Showcase, which featured the top teams in the state on Sept. 22 and 23 at Burnsville.  The Lions returned home with an 11-4 season record.

K-W 2, SG 1
The Lions opened a 2-1 loss to Kenyon-Wanamingo (27-25, 18-25, 12-25). The Knights were not among the state top 10 at the time but vaulted into the No. 6 spot after the weekend success.

Minneota 2, SG 0
The girls then faced the state’s No. 1-ranked team. The first set was competitive as the Lions fell to the Vikings, 21-25, 10-25

SG 2, Ely 0
Spring Grove took the first set 25-23 before a more comfortable 25-14 triumph in the second set.

SG 2, Nevis 9
The Lions prevailed in two closely-contested sets, 254-23, 25-21.

Cleveland 2, SG 0
State-ranked No. 8 Cleveland edged the Lions in set one 28-26 before taking the scomnd set as well, 25-17.
