Linda Newgaard Obituary - Fillmore County Journal

Linda Newgaard, 81, of Spring Grove, died at her home on Friday, December 15, 2023, surrounded by her family.

Linda was born March 29, 1942, in Spring Grove to Maurice and Agnes (Droivold) Bjergum.  After high school she became a licensed practical nurse after her training in Winona.  On January 27, 1962, she married Clinton Newgaard at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. They celebrated 49 years of marriage before his passing in 2011.

They lived in Wyoming and California for a short time before returning to Spring Grove where she worked at the hospital and nursing home.  Linda found a hobby in antiquing, which  evolved into selling items as a business owner at the Black Hammer Store, Main Street Memories, The Ballard House, and later, from her own home.  Her love for antiques led to many interesting adventures with family and friends. She had the unique ability to remember the price and story behind almost every antique she ever purchased. Her other passions were painting, wool rug hooking, clay sculpture, and her beautiful gardens.  She was an avid reader, a regular library patron, and a Spring Grove Library board member.

Her greatest love was spending time with family and friends, and sharing in the day to day lives of those she loved both near and far away.

Linda is survived by her daughters Julie (Dugan) Oakes of Spring Grove, Jody (Jon) Nowland of Onalaska, Wis., and Jana (John) Halverson of Spring Grove; grandchildren Justine, Jacob (fiancé Brittany), Trevor (Aubrey), Collin, Julia and Joelle; two great-grandchildren, Liam and Parker; two sisters, Mavis Wright of Dallas, Tex., and Sandra Klein of Rochester, Minn.; a special niece, Kelly; and many Newgaard in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Maurice and Agnes, her husband Clinton, infant brother Michael, and brothers-in-law Richard Wright and Kenny Klein.

A private memorial service will be held.  The Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel is assisting with arrangements.
