Letter about Chatfield school operating levy…
To the Editor,
Fifty years ago, I was a proud senior at Chatfield’s High School. I am back at that same school this year as a new school board member. A lot has changed in 50 years. I feel the importance of a good education remains a basis for a successful career, a stable and free country, and a strong economy. As a parent, taxpayer, and citizen I have always supported strong education funding. I am writing to encourage you to support the renewal of an operating level for Chatfield schools that was initially passed in 2015.
The 2015 operating levy is due to expire next year unless district residents vote to renew it on November 2. If approved, the tax rate will remain about the same as it’s been since 2015, it’s not a tax rate increase. This levy provides the district with about $430,000 annually to support students and staff to meet current educational needs. Without this operating levy, we will be faced with cutting staff and student programming. COVID has caused major issues and challenges for student education, making support of this levy even more important for our students’ future education.
As taxpayers, we need to ensure that school funding is used efficiently and effectively to ensure a strong education system for our students and these future taxpayers. Based on my initial board experience and review, I feel the school administration and board has been meeting that goal, therefore I support continuation of the operating levy.
For more information and insight, I encourage you visit ChatfieldStrong2021.org. Remember to vote on November 2. You can also vote early in person or by mail by contacting Lorri at the District Office, (507) 867-4210, ext. 5010.
Please make your voice heard for education.
