Letter about being thankful for the
Inflation Reduction Act…
To the Editor,
I am so thankful both our U.S. Senators who represent us here in the great state of Minnesota voted for the Inflation Reduction Act and that the act passed and was signed into law by President Biden. Because that has passed, if any of my grandma’s prescription drugs are on the list of drugs that are eligible for negotiation, her prescription drug prices can be lower now that Medicare can negotiate for lower drug prices. That is a huge relief, as she is on a fixed income. I am also thankful that increases in her Part D premiums for 2024-2030 will be limited and her out of pocket spending for drug costs under Part D will be capped to $2,000 a year. This all will help her to be financially stable and secure for the long term and our family won’t have to worry that she will not be able to afford her prescription drugs that she needs to stay healthy.
It is hard for me to believe that there are representatives in the U.S. House who voted against this bill. But some did, even my current representative. He voted against this bill that improves life for all of us, especially our seniors. You can visit lwv.org/blog/what-are-inflation-reduction-act-and-budget-reconciliation to get more information on the bill and clerk.house.gov/Votes/2022420 to see how your U.S. House Representative voted on this bill. I suggest that we make it a point to vote for a candidate who would have voted “YES” for this bill when we go to the polls in November. We need to make sure we vote in a candidate who wants to make sure our senior citizens are taken care of.
