To the Editor,
It was a Tuesday night in Harmony when residents gathered for a city council meeting to share our concerns about (or support for) our first giant national chain store that wants to open in the old Wheeler’s location. It wasn’t until the end of our public comment time that the Dollar General Corporate representative stepped up to the mic and announced his presence. Did he respond to concerns? Hardly, though he did say he would answer questions. Did he vow to work with local businesses, to make our community stronger and more vibrant? Did he try to ease our fears? Quite the opposite. He came as a powerful bully flexing his muscles and threatening our council and our city with “risk” if we do anything to get in the way of his plans. That about sums up what’s to come, don’t you think?
