Letter about January 22, 2021, nukes outlawed…
To the Editor,
On January 22, 2021, the Treaty on the Prohibition of “Nuclear Weapons” entered into force and became international law. They are now prohibited weapons of mass destruction, along with chemical weapons and biological weapons.
The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), which received the Nobel Peace Prize a few years ago, can celebrate, but still has much work to do.
The U.S. did not sign, and is doing its best to undermine this treaty. None of the nuclear power nations signed. Realizing the magnitude of destruction possible in a nuclear conflict (the possible destruction of all life on this planet) it is our duty to inform our elected officials of the necessity of signing this most important treaty. We cannot afford not to sign, for if we don’t, a nuclear conflict WILL occur, either on purpose or by accident.
Sincerely,
Harvey Benson
