To the Editor,
I am a life-long progressive democrat. I believe in things like health care for all, taxing the rich, LGBTQ rights, racial justice, environmental protections, etc. I have voted in every election since 1968 but I don’t know if I will vote this November. Why? I am angry about the rise of antisemitism in this country and the world. Though the democratic and republican parties justify it differently, both engage in it.
I am not Jewish but I believe there should be one Jewish state in the world. There are dozens of Islamic states, dozens of Christian states, a Buddhist state or two, a Hindu state, secular states. People can be critical of Netanyahu or Israel without necessarily being antisemitic but if you can’t press for peace without calling for the annihilation of Israel or holding Israel to a different standard or spewing antisemitism in political campaigns you will not have my support. Not now and never again.
