To the Editor,
On November 3, residents of Preston will have a choice to vote yes or no for a referendum to build a new municipal swimming pool in Preston. Our current pool, which has served the community faithfully for almost 70 years, requires major repairs for it to be deemed operational by the MN Department of Public Health. Because of this, a City of Preston Pool Committee was formed in early summer 2026, and its members include myself, Jessica Bradt, Jonathan Wood, Alison Leathers, Erlyn Marzolf, Robert Hanson, Dwight Luhman, Riley Buley, Michelle Marotzke, and Catilyn Duxbury.
With leadership from our City Administrator Michelle Marotzke and vendor Burbach Aquatics, we held 12 public meetings to discuss this project, potential sites, conceptual designs, referendum marketing, survey implementation, and more. The committee worked well together and all shared a common goal to present to the public a simple and efficient potential new pool and the path to be able to build and operate a new pool.
As a Pool Committee member, property owner, and frequent user of the pool, I want to be informed to cast my vote, and I want Preston voters to also be informed. Please visit the City of Preston pool project website, https://prestonmn.gov/pool/, to learn more about this referendum. The Pool Committee is dedicated to help execute this project should the referendum pass, as we hope Preston can continue its tradition of being a place to provide water safety education and water recreation for generations to come.
