To the Editor,
How has Christianity and our Republican controlled government become so perverted? Republicans wave the flag, talk like Christians, and promise the world, but it’s all lies. The odious nature of virtually all Republican plans is obvious. They seek to cut taxes on the super wealthy and raise taxes on lower incomes. As they stock the courts with conservative judges, big business and the wealthy will gain ever more power and damage our democracy. They are still trying to remove health care from millions of lower income folks that will kill thousands. Deficits will increase, public infrastructure will deteriorate, robotics will take your jobs, global climate change will cause much worse disasters than this year’s hurricanes and fires. Everyone will be worse off except the rich. Democracy may end. Riots will become our future.
Yet this doesn’t have to happen. If we elect people who have brains and care about others, we could plan ahead and have a decent future. For climate change, we need plans such as deciding what our governments will help protect and which areas will be left solely to the private sector for insurance. For the coming robotics revolution that will wipe out millions of jobs, how will we deal with the unemployed? Ideas like raising the minimum wage will only accelerate robotics implementation. Christians need to think about Christ’s main message of love and uplifting the poor. A lot of the wealthy have gained a great deal because of government funding, incentives, and infrastructure. The wealthy must be made to return some of that gain to the people. Please, if you care about our nation, think and speak up.
