Letter about Dan Leisen – “True Patriot”…

December 16, 2024 by Commentary Submissions 2 Comments

Fillmore County Journal - Weekly Newspaper Serving Southeast Minnesota's Bluff Country - Letter to the Editor

To the Editor,

I simply want to thank Daniel Leisen of Rushford for writing his honest editorial about himself as a vet and listing the “shameful” statements Trump made about vets. It’s called “Oath of a Veteran.” He states that 65% of vets voted for this golden boy who never grew up to be a real man. I find this baffling and rather hypocritical knowing Trump never served other than simply serving himself. Vets gave an oath to the Constitution and developed a tight brotherhood. It appears those vets and others who voted for him presented an “Oath to Donald J. Trump.”

I have the highest regard and respect for those who served, especially those who did not vote for Trump. Dan states “if you happen to visit [my gravesite], please don’t thank me for my service if you voted for Trump.” I DID NOT vote for Trump. Thank you for your service, Daniel.

To quote Liz Cheney, “In our country, we don’t swear an oath to an individual or a political party. We take our oath to defend the United States Constitution. And that oath must mean something. Tonight I say to my Republican colleagues who are defending the indefensible there will come a day when Donald Trump is gone, but your dishonor will remain.” (6/9/22)

    Well said, Nathan.
The Trump movement is not truly a cult as it only has one of the generally accepted features of cults.

The “leader” is above criticism, can say and do whatever he likes, is able to blind followers to objective reality, believes laws don’t apply to him, can inspire an insurrection and call those who kill police officers “patriots”, and – theoretically – “could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue” and not lose any supporters.

The consequences of the “post-truth” Trump era will tragically become more obvious over the next four years.

Really nathan, do you really think biden has held up his oath to the constitution? What does it say about protecting the citizens of the USA, and our borders? Don’t even think about addressing Trumps allegedly lying. Biden has not told the truth about anything- Hunter? His family has gotten rich with him in office – now drones, you’re pathetic nathan
