To the Editor,
I have recently been volunteering to help elect Biden/Harris and other DFL state and national candidates. Many hours of cold-calling likely voters have helped me decide that the election will be decided by voters who, although they don’t have the time or desire to research the candidates and issues, will still vote. Since it is nearly impossible to reach such voters with simply more information, I started placing large signs, the more signs at the best locations the better, in an attempt to sway these voters. Unfortunately, some people or groups decided to violate property rights and election law and remove several signs that property owners and I had personally erected in prime locations along Fillmore County One north of Spring Valley. This theft, vandalism and trespassing is happening, especially to Biden/Harris signs, all over Fillmore, Houston, and Winona counties, as well as greater Minnesota. It seems that as polling becomes more and more dismal for Trump, he and his supporters are resorting to more and more desperate (and illegal) attempts to retain power. So what should we make of all this? Let’s try to simply elect responsible and competent people to executive and legislative posts. At the very minimum, we should vote for Biden/Harris and DFL candidates and do whatever we can to convince and help our neighbors and relatives to do the same. And by all means, get some signs up on your property and that of your agreeable neighbors, especially if the signs will be exposed to lots and lots of eyes and are in well-lit and secure locations. If your signs are stolen, promptly report the trespassing, theft, and election law violations and then try to replace them. It’s your democratic duty to help sway undecided voters.
