Letter about angels in blue…
To the Editor,
There has been much press lately demeaning the police force in many places in our country. Some folks loudly express little trust in them. Here are my impressions of police officers.
There have been times when I get nervous about the police. Like when one of them is sitting at the roadside checking for speed violators. I check my speedometer to see if I am going faster than I ought. His presence reminds me to keep the law.
However, more personal exchanges I have had with the officers standing out in my memory are when we or others have some distress. One time our car quit on the exit from Hwy 52 to I94 in St. Paul. It was a dangerous situation and hazardous for us to leave our car. The police in a short time came to our aid. Once our vehicle started again, the officer courteously accompanied us for several miles just to be sure that our vehicle would not quit on us again.
When St. Paul roads were under construction, I needed to get to my destination. Not native to the area, I had a hard time knowing which route to take. A police officer advised me, pointed the way, gave me a map and kindly sent me on my way.
We have had our share of accidents or other emergencies. In those times, the officers appear like angels in blue to help. I can only be thankful to God for their speed and eager attitudes in rendering assistance and encouragement.
I am so grateful for our police force and their commitment to serving us as they do. It is not just a job. It is their service of protection that I have witnessed. Our police force deserves our thanks and respect.
