Lanesboro Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) is excited to announce the offering of two weekly programs for children (birth-Age 5) families/parents/guardians and the return of the popular ECFE egg hunt at Sylvan Park.
On Tuesdays, ECFE meets for free play, story-time, and community. Tuesday classes are held at the Lanesboro Community Center and occasionally Sylvan Park with drop-in free play from 3:30-5 p.m. and a storytime at 4:15 p.m. On Friday mornings, ECFE is offering a nature-based program that takes place on the campus of Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center west of Lanesboro. The group meets at 9:30 a.m. outside the Schroeder building for short hikes, free play in the nature playground, nature themed activities and a storytime. Please email ecfe@lanesboroschools.com for more information.
All weekly ECFE classes are led by early childhood professional and nature-based teacher Alayna Sobieniak. “It has been such a joy to watch our families and children grow over the last two years of Lanesboro ECFE. I am continually inspired by them and excited to reach even more families in the future through both our weekly playgroups and our larger community events!” -Alayna Sobieniak.
ECFE large events are facilitated by Rachel Kuhnle – a theatre artist, arts educator and Lanesboro parent of two busy toddlers. Rachel will make her ECFE professional debut with the April 19 Easter egg hunt in Sylvan Park beginning at 9 a.m. sharp. Families can expect free books, activities including face painting, snacks and a special appearance by the Easter Bunny. Free family fun for all ages! “I’m passionate about crafting experiences that bring people together. Building community and making memories with our littles is an investment in the future.” – Rachel Kuhnle
Lanesboro ECFE would like to recognize and thank Stacey Schultz for her contributions to our program over the past nine years as an educator and community event organizer.

Lanesboro Child Care Center (LCCC): The center is a nearly brand new facility that is joined to our District K-12 building. It is located adjacent to our new gymnasium and indoor and outdoor play areas, providing plenty of opportunities for large motor activities. With the in-house daycare, Lanesboro Public School is promoting the value of family first and developing children who are school ready. The LCCC strives to provide quality care to all of our children. Through age appropriate activities we are able to help your child grow physically, emotionally, and socially. We maintain high standards for all staff and attempt to keep child ratios small to provide for the individualized care each child needs. We at LCCC believe that children need a warm, safe, colorful environment and varied experiences that place the emphasis on “play.” By providing these things, we feel that your child will grow and develop at a pace that is just right for them. LCCC feels that the role of the teacher is to assist the learning process by providing an environment where each child has an opportunity to explore and develop various skills. Our professional staff is responsible for planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum for each age level.
Lanesboro Preschool: Our preschool program offers several opportunities for your child to be engaged. With two-day a week 3- and 4-year-old preschool and three-day a week 4- and 5-year-old preschool, your child can have every opportunity to build the skills needed for a successful transition to kindergarten. Tess Heim and Terri Jensson have years of experience creating and developing a caring and nurturing environment that not only enhances learning but enhances the experience children have in this important age group. With an emphasis on social-emotional learning as a key foundation, the preschool program uses research-based curricula to help ensure every child has an opportunity for success. Play as learning is an important part of every day in our program and helping children learn self-regulation, compassion, and empathy are important components of the process. Due to the preschool classroom being in the heart of our elementary school wing, children have access to all of the features of a full school experience. Right outside of the preschool door is access to a new playground, Sylvan City Park with all of its playground equipment, and our gymnasium for indoor time. Lanesboro Child Care Center is also onsite in the building which makes for easy transitions during the day if you are utilizing that service as well.
Lanesboro Summer Recreation: The summer months are right around the corner. We are once again preparing for our popular Summer Recreation opportunities. The summer brochure will be mailed to residents in May 2025 with most of the programs beginning in early June. If you have any questions regarding any of our programs at Lanesboro Public Schools: ECFE, Child Care, Preschool, or Summer Recreation, please contact Lanesboro Schools at 507-467-2229, www.lanesboro.k12.mn.us, and follow us on Facebook at Lanesboro Public School District #229.
