It didn’t come easy. Kingsland’s girls got a scare as they won two more SEC games to clinch at least a share of the SEC-West title. Versus Southland, a squad Kingsland beat 62-37 in early December, the Knights trailed 33-24 at half, and didn’t take the lead in the second half for good until 52-50. Overall, Steve Hauser’s group ended on a 13-1 run, annulling a late 50-46 deficit. Out-scoring Southland 35-18 in the second half, Kingsland prevailed 59-51. Anika Reiland (16 pts, 7-12 FGs) did the big scoring, while Cassidy Redman (10 pts, 4-5 FGs), Audrey Webster (9 pts, 7 asts), and Katelyn Hauser (9 pts) helped out. Southland’s Bailey Johnson went for 22 (pts) and 15 (rebs). Kingsland hit 15 of 19 free throws (79%). A few nights later, things were much less tense versus LeRoy-Ostrander, Kingsland built a 40-17 halftime lead a cruised to a 68-31 win. Emily Miner (14 pts, 5-7 FGs, 7 rebs) and Hauser (11 pts, 3-5 threes) hit double figures. A-Reiland (8 pts, 10 rebs, 5 asts, 7 stls) stuffed the stat sheet while Brooke Lecy (9 pts, 9 rebs) and Alexys Harwood (8 pts, 4 stls) helped out. Jordan Runde had 14 points to lead L-O. It was Kingsland’s sixth straight win. The Knights (11-0, 15-7) lead GM (9-2, 15-5) by two games and each team has two SEC games to go. Both play SEC-East leading Lanesboro.
