The district last went to the voters in November of 2024 with a two-question bond referendum. The first ballot question, dedicated to deferred maintenance projects, was approved by the voters. The second ballot question sought approval for essentially the same projects proposed in this review and comment and was not approved by the voters.
The district was projecting a slight reduction in total student enrollment from 509 in the 2023-24 school year to 487 in the 2028-2029 school year at the time of the November 2024 referendum. Since then, 2028-29 enrollment projections have been revised upward to 512 students. The additional gymnasium space proposed, combined with the district’s existing gymnasium space, exceeds MDE building space guidelines for a school district of this size.
The district has supplied cost estimates to operate and staff the additional building space, and believes existing revenues will be sufficient to fund the operational cost increases associated with the proposed facility addition. The proposed projects appear to be in the long-term interest of the school district.
