Kingsland School Board hears about a van crash and proposed salad bar

December 12, 2022 by Fillmore County Journal

In an update regarding food service at the Kingsland School Board meeting on Monday, December 5, District Superintendent Scott Klavetter updated the board on a project to bring a salad bar to the Kingsland School District.

Klavetter said they have ordered equipment for the new salad bar and that it will expand the ability to bring healthy choices to the children of the district. “Nothing’s guaranteed right now (due to supply chain issues) but kids can have as much as they want of those types of things. We have the opportunity and options to deliver fresh food and vegetables.”

He cautioned the board that there is no timeline set as to when this would be operational, yet it is an exciting development for the food service department.

Van crash

In the report on transportation, Klavetter mentioned that the district’s new van is up and running and is now in service filling the routes of the district’s van 17, which was involved in a recent T-bone crash with a passenger car this past week. The damaged van is currently being repaired. No children were in the van at the time of the crash, and the two drivers were transported for minor injuries.

Wednesday and Friday games

Concerns were raised by the Rochester Area Officials Association about the dates for basketball games. Klavetter noted that the ministerial association has been good in working with them, and late last year they did have to reschedule a game or two to a Wednesday night.

“We’re trying to do our part… I really don’t want to start cutting into those things (church programming) any more than we have too. Just know that they’re already starting to happen.”

MSBA Leadership

Conference

Registrations have been made for phase 1 training for all three new incoming school board members to attend the Minnesota School Board Association Leadership Conference next month. All other school board members will also be attending.

Truth in Taxation

The district’s annual Truth in Taxation meeting will be held at the board’s next meeting on December 19 at 6 p.m. They will plan to hold the meeting in the Kingsland Elementary Conference room but will have the choir room ready if there is a larger group attending.
