During this time children are given the opportunity to socialize with other children and one-on-one activities with parents. Parent topics covered: Child Development, Parenting, Discipline, along with others topics of interest to parents. ECFE classes are taught by MN State licensed parent and early childhood educators who work directly with parents and their young children. In addition, ECFE also offers engaging events that promote all areas of family development. Kingsland Public Schools provides children ages three and above the opportunity to participate in an Early Childhood Developmental screening. Qualified staff will examine your child’s vision, hearing, speech and language, dental status, nutritional status, immunization status, developmental status and family information. The school uses the screening results to plan educational and health programs and link children who have specific needs to those programs. Preschool is also a time to identify an area of need for a child. The sooner a potential problem can be identified the better the chances are for successful intervention.
Kingsland preschool program is open to children ages three to five years old. Preschool is divided into two age levels – 3/4 and 4/5 – offered Monday through Friday, with full- and part-time options available. Our preschool program provides your child the opportunity to learn important school readiness skills during a critical development period. Our program uses Creative Curriculum which is researched based and emphasizes best practice. Preschool is the foundation of your child’s education. During preschool, children learn a variety of skills to help them in succeed in areas such social emotional, language and literacy, cognitive, mathematics, physical, and many others areas.
Our preschool teachers meet weekly with other elementary staff to ensure teaching practiced are aligned. An example of aligned teaching is collaborating with other teachers to ensure we are teaching in a similar way and with techniques that demonstrate best practice. Preschool teachers also work closely with the Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE), occupational therapy, and speech. Working with other support areas gives the classroom lessons the opportunity to ensure that students are receiving the highest quality instruction to meet the student’s needs.
An example of an area of development that preschool teaches is social skills. It is important to develop social skills as it is necessary for everyday interactions in life. The develop of these skills is incorporated through our centers, outside time, and morning circle. During this instruction, teachers work with the students to help them solve problems, teach them how to play with their peers, demonstrate how to ask questions to others. If a child’s skills are not developed until kindergarten, the child will have a harder time keeping up with their peers who have already mastered this skill.
Kingsland preschool program is a 4 Star Parent Aware rated program. This is the highest rating a program can receive.
