Karrol A. Gielow, 80 of Rushford, Minn., died on Sunday, May 31, 2020, at Lake Winona Manor in Winona, Minn., following a battle with a long illness.
Karrol was born on December 12, 1939, in Rushford to Elmer and Evelyn (Bratz) Gielow. He was raised on Vinegar Hill and attended school in Houston, Minn. On November 8, 1966, Karrol was united in marriage with Diane Erdmann at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hart, Minn. Through his career, Karrol was a farmer, he was a gas station owner and operator, worked for Agrimson Farms as a debeaker, and in his retirement years he worked as a custodian for Rushford – Peterson Schools. Karrol was a member of the Rushford Historical Society, Fillmore County Historical Society, Civil War Round Table in Winona, the Winona Friendship Center and St. Mark Lutheran Church in Rushford. Karrol enjoyed playing cards, history, reading, and traveling. He was a very social person who loved life and his family.
Karrol is survived by his wife Diane; two grandchildren: James and Julia Alberts; and his son-in-law Tom Alberts, all of Decorah, Iowa; a sister, Karen (Roger) Roth of Houston, Minn.; two sisters-in-law: Mavis Gielow and Jean (Bill) Frutiger; and by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Debra; three brothers: Alton, Richard, and Ron who died in infancy; three sisters: Helen, Arlene, and Rose; and by three brothers-in-law: Lewis, Layton and Raymond.
There will be a private family graveside service at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Hart, Minn. There will also be a drive thru visitation from 3-5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2020, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hart, Minn. Please enter from the north side driveway entrance, drive around the church and stay in your vehicles to greet the family under the church awning.
A celebration of life for Karrol will take place at a later date.
In Lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials directed to the donor’s choice and mailed to the Karrol Gielow family in care of Hoff Funeral Home, PO Box 625, Rushford, Minn.
