The 154th annual Minnesota Newspaper Association conference and trade show was not quite the same this year due to COVID-19 restrictions. However, that didn’t prevent the big show from coming together in a virtual presentation.
Each year, hundreds of newspaper professionals from more than 200 daily and weekly newspapers throughout the state of Minnesota gather in Bloomington, Minn., for an annual event.
On Thursday, January 28, the Minnesota Newspaper Association Better Newspaper Contest gala awards ceremony was held via Zoom.
There were more than 3,100 entries from newspapers all throughout Minnesota.
The team at the Fillmore County Journal earned seven awards in the following categories:
First place for special section, website, and advertising excellence. Second place for best magazine, columnist, and use of color in advertising. Third place for typography and design.
These awards span three important areas of the newspaper business – editorial, advertising, and presentation of content.
Collectively, in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021, the Fillmore County Journal team has earned 101 awards from the Minnesota Newspaper Association, Midwest Free Community Papers, and Association of Free Community Publications.
