Houston Schools welcomed two new teachers to their staff this year: Angela Engebretson, speech and language pathologist, and Duane Ledin, music teacher and choir director.

Angela Engebretson is the new speech and language pathologist for Houston Schools and will be working with students ranging in age from 5 to 21.
Engebretson received her Bachelor’s in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and her Master’s Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Over the years, she has taught in both hospital and school settings.
Angela chose to be a speech-language pathologist after she took an Introduction to Communication Sciences and Disorders class as an undergraduate student. She has always enjoyed helping people; this position allows her to help others become better communicators.
Reading, learning new things, travel and spending time with her family are all things Angela likes to do in her spare time. Angela lives in La Crosse, Wis., she has been married for 31 years and has three young adult children.
Engebretson feels her biggest challenge and joy this year will be getting to know all of her students and their families. She looks forward to getting to know the staff at Houston as well.
Engebretson’s goal is to work with the teachers and families to help each of her students achieve their personal goals and objectives. She ended by declaring, “I am so excited and happy to be here!”

Duane Ledin is in his 16th year of teaching; he formerly taught in Warroad and Fillmore Central school districts. He graduated from University of Wisconsin River Falls.
A love of music and a love of kids drew Duane to teaching; growing up, his teachers were great role models for him and inspired him to become a teacher.
Ledin will be teaching fifth and sixth grade band and lessons at Houston as well as choir and lessons to 9-12 grade students and general music to K-6 elementary students. In the past Ledin has taught primarily band. Although his assignment at Houston is different from what he was used to, he’s been really enjoying it!
Mr. Ledin is looking forward to getting to know the staff and students at Houston. He shared that everyone has been very welcoming and he is thrilled to be a part of the Houston School District. His goal is to continue to educate himself as a music educator and inspire young people.
Duane lives with his wife and two daughters in Harmony, Minn. He enjoys composing music as a hobby. Ledin loves sports as well as traveling with his family.
According to Ledin, his claim to fame is that he is a music teacher who grew up in a neighborhood called Melody Manor, lived on a street named Symphony Street and is currently living in Harmony, Minn.! He declared, “Maybe the universe is telling me something!”
