Marissa Bailey Candidate for Houston School Board
1. Tell us about yourself.
I grew up in Brownsville, MN. I have lived in Houston for 16 years with my husband; we have four children. Shortly after we moved to Houston, I opened a successful in-home daycare and cared for many children over the course of nine years, I chose to change paths when my youngest entered kindergarten. I am now co-owner of Barista’s Coffee House in Houston. I also served as a member of the Friends of the Library board for Houston Public Library.
2. Why are you running for office?
I am running for school board because I have always been passionate about our school and want quality education for all of the current and future students in our community. We have a wonderful school with incredible teachers and staff. I feel the school board should be an unbiased board with strong shared beliefs and values about what is possible for students and their ability to learn, and of the system and its ability to teach all children at high levels.
3. What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected?
If I am elected, I will be prepared for meetings and willing to learn all that I can to be a successful board member. I will fully commit to gain a clear vision for our district. I understand that my commitment is with the community. I will help set goals, focus on student achievement, work to build positive relationships throughout our district. I will connect with our community and learn to strategically use resources.
