Aaron L. Sleyster’s photo studio stocked within its walls a myriad of items for sale. We can only imagine what it was like to have had the privilege of purchasing merchandise from him.
The list would have been truly extraordinary and included: books of poetry, paintings, cabinet photographs of adults, children, babies, landscapes, cityscapes, buildings, bridges; and not to mention – RPPCs (Real Picture Post Cards) which are so very collectible, even nowadays!
And that, my friend, is what you are gazing at today! Within the pages of Sleyster’s Hours of Pleasure book of poetry, on page 58, you will find today’s photograph. Too bad Mr. Sleyster didn’t include the name of the gentleman who was enjoying a leisurely day of fishing on the beautiful Root River! But I for one am thankful he left us with not only a delightful poem but a picture to go along with it. Thank you Aaron!!!
Plus it is well to remember and to recognize that Mr. Sleyster was one of countless early Fillmore County photographers who painstakingly worked their crafts preserving hundreds, if not thousands, of historic images that all of us will continue to treasure for years to come! Thank you to each and every one of them!
