Stress affects us all. And most of us do not take the time to care for ourselves. Not caring for ourselves and letting stress take over can cause many health issues including anxiety, depression, digestive problems, headaches, muscle tension and pain, heart disease, heart attacks, high blood pressure, strokes, sleep problems, weight gain, and many other problems. There are many things we can do to help with our stress. Eating healthy and exercising are good options. We can also slow down and meditate. Another thing we can do is practice self-care. One local woman has opened a new business to help more people practice self-care. That business is KALME Yoga in Harmony, Minn.
Bobbi Brossard opened KALME (pronounced calm) on August 1, 2023. KALME is named after her daughters Kaitlin and Kiryn, Abigail, Lorelai, McKaila and Emma. Bobbi and her family came to Minnesota from Seattle, Wash., in 2018 and live in Harmony, Minn. Bobbi learned how to heal herself through yoga and decided she wanted to help others do the same.
Bobbi started learning trauma-informed yoga in January 2022. She was learning about the history of yoga and how to help people deal with their trauma through yoga. She spent 200-plus hours training and learning how to be a yoga teacher and attaining the USUI/Holy Fire III Reiki placements Levels I and II, which she obtained in 2022, and her master’s in 2023 through the Healing Shack in Lime Springs, Iowa. She is also a life coach and offers coaching to anyone interested. Her office started in Decorah, Iowa until she found a “for rent” sign in the window of a building in Harmony. So she took the plunge. And now Harmony and surrounding communities have the opportunity to learn from her. People have come from Harmony, Preston, Lanesboro, Spring Valley, Chatfield, and Dorchester to name a few places to take her classes. She offers slow yoga, although she has higher intensity classes too, reiki energy healing, life coaching, and workshops.
The yoga classes offered are Mindful Flow class, which is described as breathwork meets flow in this meditative practice that prioritizes ease and calm. It is great for all experience levels. Power Flow class, a breath-to-movement flow with a higher intensity, and some yoga experience is helpful. Restorative class is a restful practice that pairs deep relaxation and meditation offering a beautiful union of body and mind. You can also book yoga parties for you and your friends.
Most of us know what yoga is but not everyone knows what reiki energy healing is. Reiki is a Japanese energy healing for relaxation and stress reduction. It uses gentle touch to channel the universal life force energy to improve the flow and balance of your energy to support healing. There are many benefits to this healing including peace and deep relaxation, better sleep, emotional relief, self-discovery, and healthy thoughts.
Bobbi will be offering Reiki Levels I & II certification for those who want to learn on February 17 and 18 from 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. on both days. There are also different workshops throughout the year. Just check her website www.joyfullyempowered.com for what is available.
Bobbi said her family has been so supportive and loves what she is doing. Her husband Dustin, a tattoo artist, even took the reiki training with her so he could help his clients. The city of Harmony, its residents, and other businesses have been very welcoming and supportive of her opening her business. She has joined the Chamber of Commerce and enjoys the community.
Bobbi’s students have wonderful things to say about her. Lexie Engelhardt said, “I definitely was skeptical going into my first reiki session but wow, Bobbi makes the experience so effortless and comforting. It was so eye-opening and brings a calmness over you but also makes you really dig deep into your emotions. I would highly recommend it to anyone.”
And, Laurie Touhy said, “I’m loving KALME Yoga!!”
Another student Kim Ledebuhr tells, “I have been attending classes at KALME Yoga studio and love them. The perfect ‘me’ time with no judgment and a space to just take care of myself.”
Bobbi had things to say about her students, too. “I love to see the students smile and that they are loving their time there. I just want to offer a place for people to take time for themselves.”
Her class schedules revolve around the seasons. She is still working out the best schedule to have classes so that everyone who wants to attend can find a class time that works for them. She has been offering two classes a month at the elementary school in Preston, Minn., for teachers. She has a full list of classes and times on her website. Classes cost $10 a class, or a monthly unlimited class pass for $80. Her Sunday Restorative class is $15 for 90 minutes. Everyone is welcome to join her classes; she does however stay with ages 12 and up right now, but she is hoping to expand the age range in the future.
Bobbi shares her space with Lydia Lazzara who owns Questions Authority Coaching LLC. Lydia is a shamanic healer and life coach. In the future, they would both like to expand their businesses and have been looking into bigger spaces in Harmony.
