Addyson McHugh served a dozen aces as undefeated Spring Grove (3-0, 3-0 SEC) coasted past a third straight winless conference volleyball rival. The visiting Spring Grove Lions defeated the Schaeffer Academy Lions 3-0 (25-4, 25-12, 25-11) at Rochester on Sept. 7. With McHugh serving, the first 19 points, it was 18-0 before a Schaeffer kill ended the run.

Spring Grove attacked with a season-high 43% efficiency with 30 kills and only six hitting errors. McHugh led with nine kills (only one misfire) while Kenadee Gerard added eight kills. Eight different visiting Lions were credited with kills, including five from Lydia Solum. Rachel Normann assisted on 24 of the 30 kills. Grove also served a season-best 93% with 17 aces.

Schaeffer scored the first two points of the second set, but Spring Grove then rolled to a 14-4 lead. Schaeffer was never in contention thereafter and finished the night with more hitting errors (15) than kills (12). The Schaeffer served a good 90%, but there were more service errors (3) than aces (1). Schaeffer dropped to 0-3 and would finish the week at 0-4 (0-4 SEC).

The late-week Lanesboro at Spring Grove match was postponed until Oct. 11. The Sept. 14 match at Houston has also been postponed with makeup date pending.
The B-team girls have also opened at 3-0 with straight-set 2-0 wins against Southland (25-5, 25-13), Lyle/Pacelli (25-4, 25-8) and Schaeffer Academy (25-7, 25-8). The C-team (4-1) opened with a win versus Southland (25-5, 25-13) and took two-of-three matches to finish as runner-up at a tournament with wins over Caledonia (2-1) and Grand Meadow (3-0) before falling to Fillmore Central (1-2).
