Over the last two-plus competed seasons, no other Section 1A track and field programs have been as successful as GMLOKS and LFCMC. Both had their boys’and girls teams compete at last year’s state True Team meet (all finished top three). LFCMC’s teams have each made state the last three years. GMLOKS’ girls have made state the past two, winning a state title last year. Both GMLOKS and LFCMC squads have again made state.
The GMLOKS girls will defend their True Team title. Aaron Thauwald’s group (877) topped nearest foes LFCMC (838), Lake City (779), and Chatfield (730.5) for their third straight 1A crown. Junior Anika Reiland led the charge, taking first in the 100 (12.39), 200 (25.85), and 400 (1:01.5). Lexy Foster was her top accomplice. She posted firsts in the Shot Put (35’5 ¼’) and Discus (117’6”). Chantle Reiland (2nd 100, 3rd 200), McKenna Hendrickson (2nd 800, 3rd 1,600) and Naomi Warmka (4th 1,600, 4th 3,200) had two individual top five finishes. Shelby Beck (4th Pole Vault), Rebecca Hoffman (4th Shot), and Breeley Galle (4th 300-hurdles) finished top five. The girls 4×200 (2nd > C-Reiland, Galle, Grace Soltau, Anna Oehlke) took second. The 4×400 (Beck, Lauren Queensland, Kendyl Queensland, Oehlke) took third. The 4×800 (Beck, Maddy Bhend, L-Queensland, K-Queensland) took fourth. LFCMC’s girls runner-up finish was spurred by depth. Lynsey Ruen (1st 300-H > 49.08, 4th 100-H) and Brielle Ruen (2nd 400, 4th 200) each had two individual top five finishes.

The 2022 boys True Team Section 1A champions, Lanesboro/Fillmore Central/Mabel-Canton. LFCMC claimed its first True Team section title since 2009 (they’ve qualified by “Wild Card” the last three years). The LFCMC girls also qualified for state, by “Wild Card.”

B-Ruen added a sixth (100). Madison Simon and Addie Miner won the Pole Vault (9’0”). Kammry Broadwater (4th Triple Jump, 6th Discus) had two top six finishes. Lillyan Kiehne (2nd 1,600), Kyla Hellickson (3rd H-Jump), and Chloe Miller (5th 300-H) added top five finishes. The 4×400 (Miner, L-Ruen, Kinley Soiney, Broadwater) took second. The 4×800 (3rd > Brooklyn Simon, M-Simon, Sahara Morken, Morgan Pickett) took third. The Burro girls made state via “Wild Card.” Chatfield’s best finishers were Zayda Priebe (2nd Shot and Discus), Lexi Kivimagi (1st 3,200 > 12:36.64), Anna Kivimagi (3rd 300-H), Lauren Cole (5th H-Jump), Emma Mulhern (5th-tie, P-Vault), and Rebecca Copeman (5th-tie P-Vault). The girls 4×200 (Lauryn Daniels, Evy Goldsmith, Saige Schild, Cole) took fourth. Aubryanna Boldt led RPH (1st 300-H > 16.51, 3rd T-Jump).
LFCMC boys track and field has made state as a “Wild Card” each of the last three years. Injuries have been a bugaboo. They again impacted the squad at this year’s 1A Meet (hurdle stand-out J.T. Rein didn’t compete, Seth Semmen got hurt running the 100). But Alex Aiken’s boys persevered (858), topping nearest foes St. Charles (839), GMLOKS (813), and Chatfield (755.5) to earn their first 1A True Team title since 2009. The Burros didn’t have a first place. Jayce Kiehne (2nd H-Jump, 4th 1,600), Will Harvey (3rd 110-H, 3rd 300-H), Carson Ruen (3rd 3,200, 5th 1,600), and Jordan Peterson (4th T-Jump, 5th 200) had two top five finishes. Semmen (3rd Discus), Jacob Peterson (4th Discus), Isaac Snyder (5th 800), and Chase Christianson (5th H-Jump) added a top five finishes. The 4×400 (Snyder, Christianson, Luke Ruen, Kiehne) and 4×800 (Kyle Daniels, Snyder, L-Ruen, Kiehne) took second. The 4×100 (Sam Springer, Michael Rein, L-Ruen, Kiehne) took fourth. Third place GMLOKS was led by James Howard, who won the 200 (22.77), took second in the 100, and had two sixth places (L-Jump, H-Jump-tie). Throwers Riley Paul (Shot > 51’1”) and Christian Luthe (1st Discus > 128’6”, 3rd Shot) also won events. Garrison Hubka had two (1,600, 3,200), and Zach Reiland (300-H) a single, second-place finish. The 4×800 (Andrew Imm, Tate Georgen, Erik Shaw, Josh Meskill) took fourth. The Bulldogs made state by “Wild Card” (as did St. Charles). Fourth-place Chatfield was led by Sam Backer (1st 100 > 11.23, 2nd 200). Eli Hopp (4th 400), Logan Thompson (5th 3,200), and Isaac Erding (5th P-Vault) added top five finishes. The 4×800 (Gabe Erding, Adam Pagnano, Alex Rowland, Treyton Lanning) took third. The 4×200 (I-Erding, Thad Evans, Tobin McMahon, Backer) took fourth. Fifth-place RPH was led by Tyler Rislov’s exploits (1st 3,200 > 10:19.7, 3rd 1,600). Aaron Prinsen (2nd P-Vault), Jackson Bergan (2nd Discus), Dalton Hoel (3rd 400), Quintin Betthauser (5th 110-H), and Gregg Gile (5th T-Jump) added top five placements. The boys 4×400 took fourth (Q-Betthauser, A-Prinsen, Austin Agrimson, Hoel).
