Larks Win Three Non-Con Games, Streak to Six 

Grand Meadow girls basketball had a busy week of non-conference action.  At Blooming Prairie, GM led 32-24 at the half.  BP then closed to down two.  With it 34-32, GM went on a 14-0 run to lead 48-32. GM had 26 offensive rebounds for 20 second-chance points; BP eight for six.  The Larks prevailed 55-45.  Lauren Queensland (24 pts, 14 rebs, 4 stls) led the way.  Gracie Foster (12 pts, 6 rebs, 4 stls), Aspen Kolling (8 pts), Rylee Schaufler (6 pts, 10 rebs), and Naomi Warmka (5 pts, 6 rebs, 4 asts) helped.  At Rushford-Peterson (7-3, 9-5), in a key 1A battle of top four 1A teams, GM broke a 22-22 halftime tie with a 13-5 run out of intermission to lead 35-27.  Foster scored 16 straight Lark points, including all 13 in the run.  R-P then climbed within three, on three different occasions.  GM answered each time, including Queensland hitting a late-in-the-shot-clock three (2:43) to make it 46-40.  Warmka followed with a put-back bucket (2:11) making it 48-40.  R-P turned it over four straight times as the Larks built a late 50-40 lead (1:31).  GM prevailed 52-46, hitting 9 of 22 threes (41%) to R-P’s 5 of 18 (28%).  Foster hit 5 of 11 triples for a game-high 19 points (6 rebs).  Queensland added 15 points (5-8 FGs, 2-3 threes, 3-3 FTs, 6 rebs, 5 asts).  Warmka (11 pts, 4-6 FGs, 6 rebs, 4 asts) and Kolling (7 pts, 5 rebs) helped.  Torryn Schneider (17 pts, 5-6 FTs, 5 rebs, 4 asts) and Kaia Loney (13 pts, 6-11 FGs) led R-P.  Nadia Happel added 7.  GM ended the week topping La Crescent/Hokah 61-32.  Foster (21 pts, 5-13 threes, 7 rebs) again was good from deep.  Queensland (13 pts, 6-8 FGs, 11 rebs, 4 stls – seventh double double) and Kolling (8 pts, 7 rebs) helped.  GM hit 11 of 27 threes (41%), LCH 3 of 10 (30%), shot 46% overall to LCH’s 27%.  Team Purple (7-2, 14-2) trails SG (7-1, 13-3) in the SEC.

Three Rivers Conference Girls Basketball (1/21 – 1/24) 

Fillmore Central 75, St. Charles 46 (FC: M. Zwart 21 pts (10-14 FGs), 10 rebs; Kyla Hellickson 18 pts (9-11 FGs); Brooklyn Simon 11 pts (5-6 FGs).  FC shot 53% (34 of 64) from two-point range, had 17 offensive rebounds)  

Dover-Eyota 70, Chatfield 45 (C: G. Schroeder 9 pts; A. Harmening/Lexi Kivimagi 7 pts.  Chatfield > 4-7, 7-11)

Southeast Conference Girls Basketball (1/20 – 1/23) 

Lanesboro 49, Spring Grove 72 (SG: S. Konkel 16 pts (3-5 threes), 11 asts, 4 stls; Kylie Hammel 15 pts, 7 rebs, 6 stls; Kinley Soiney 9 pts, 14 rebs, 5 asts, 4 stls; Brinley Middendorf 9 pts, 12 rebs; Emerson Ingvalson 11 pts (5-5 FGs). L: J. Storhoff 22 pts (3-6 threes), 6 rebs, 7 asts, 5 stls; Cora Mayer 6 pts, 10 rebs, 4 asts; Hailey Erickson 6 pts, 8 rebs; Jentrey Schreiber 8 pts.  SG led 37-31 at halftime and then opened the second half with a nine-point run. The Lions led by double digit margins for most of the second half. Spring Grove had a 12-point advantage in free throws (17 for 27, LHS 5 for 19) while winning by 13)

Non-Conference Girls Basketball (1/20 – 1/25)

Fillmore Central 57, Hayfield/Schaeffer Academy 64 (FC: B. Simon 15 pts (7-13 FGs), 6 rebs; K. Hellickson 9 pts, 7 rebs; Haley O’Connor 8 pts; M. Zwart 6 pts, 10 rebs; Hannah Vaalemoen 7 pts, 4 asts.  FC led 35-22 at halftime.  FC > 5-5, 10-10)  

Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons 51, Houston 68 (H: J. Meyer 23 pts (7-10 FTs), 15 rebs; Aubry Boldt 17 pts; Emily Botcher 10 pts, 9 rebs)  

LeRoy-Ostrander 50, Mankato-Loyola 64 (Cardinals > 0-10, 1-16)  

Southland 60, Chatfield 70 (C: A. Harmening 21 pts, 13 rebs; K. Knutson 20 pts, 4 stls K. Schroeder 10 pts, 6 rebs; L. Kivimagi 9 pts, 9 asts; G. Schroeder 8 pts.  Chatfield never trailed.  Gophers > 4-7, 8-11)  

Lanesboro 55, Wabasha-Kellogg 34 (L: J. Storhoff 17 pts, 7 asts, 8 stls; J. Schreiber 9 pts (3-3 threes).  Lanesboro built a 36-13 halftime lead.  They hit 8 of 15 threes (53%).  Burros > 5-4, 9-8) 

New Hampton 47, Spring Grove 66 (SG: K. Soiney 19 pts, 6 stls; K. Hammel 15 pts, 4 asts; S. Konkel 10 pts, 4 asts; E. Ingvalson 8 pts, 9 rebs, 4 asts. The Lions used a seven-point run and a then a six-point run on the way to a 35-24 halftime lead. Both teams shot well from three-point land (SG 35%, NH 33%), but the Lions outrebounded the Chickasaws, 38 to 21, their greatest margin of the season.  Rescheduled Decorah Border Battle game)

Rushford-Peterson 66, DeSoto 42 (R-P: Torryn Schneider 17 pts (5-7 FTs), 6 rebs, 6 stls; Nadia Happel 10 pts; Ava Helgemoe 10 pts, 11 rebs; Emily Helgemoe 9 pts (4-5 FGs); Kaia Loney 8 pts, 7 rebs.  R-P scored 33 points in each stanza, but DeSoto scored 29 in the first half and then just 13 after intermission.  Trojans > 7-3, 10-6)
