Funding for Fillmore County Veterans Home finally secured

April 5, 2021 by Fillmore County Journal

After years of helping move the project forward, State Representative Greg Davids (R-Preston) said he was pleased to learn that federal funding is now in place to construct a veterans home in Fillmore County, Montevideo, and Bemidji, the final hurdle that needed to be overcome to make this dream a reality.

“These homes will serve those who served us, and I’d like to thank Congressman Hagedorn and our federal delegation for securing this needed funding, Governor Walz, Senator Miller, Fillmore County commissioners and city officials for their tireless efforts in support of this project, and most importantly, our veterans,” Davids said.

Previously, Representative Davids championed legislation that allocated funding to create three new veterans homes in Minnesota, including the project in Fillmore County. His funding proposal allowed local governments to meet the necessary state funding match for veterans’ home construction. However, roughly two-thirds of the cost for a new veterans’ home needed to come from federal contributions in order for the plan to move forward.

Now that funding is in hand, Davids said work will soon begin on the facility, which will benefit eligible veterans and their spouses.

“This is great news not only for southeastern Minnesota but for all of those who fought for our freedoms,” Davids concluded.
