Introduce your kids to the lifelong joys of fishing at Preston Trout Days, Friday, May 20 through Sunday, May 22.
Saturday morning at 9 a.m. is the Kid’s Fishing Contest at Camp Creek approximately two miles past Preston’s ballpark in Maust’s pasture on Hunter Road. The fun event is for kids ages 12 and under! Fishing licenses are not required but kids must be accompanied by an adult and bring their own equipment and bait. The event lasts a couple of hours, but feel free to come and go. Don’t forget to register for prizes. Participants will not go hungry as lunch is included.
Test out your skills on Preston’s 9-hole fishing course on the South Branch Root River. This is the 10th anniversary of the course.
On Saturday, youth over 12 can participate in the free Orvis Fly Fishing 101 workshop. Preston Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Director, Gabby Kinneberg, emphasized, “Orvis is well known in the fly-fishing world.”
Preston’s Trout Days is three days of fun activities, shopping, music, and mouth-watering food. Other activities include the citywide garage sales, Show and Shine Car Show, EMS steak dinner, Master Gardeners’ plant sale, pop-up market, historic caboose and elevator tours, bingo, bean bag tournament, grand parade, and fireworks plus the Sunday tractor pull.
