Finn Ronken

June 20, 2023 by Fillmore County Journal

Finn L. Ronken, 22, of Canton, passed away, Sunday, June 11, 2023, from injuries sustained in an accident.

On October 24, 2000, Finn Lee Ronken was welcomed into the world by his parents Gary Ronken, Jr. and Erica Eiken, in Decorah, Iowa.

Finn was baptized in the Henrytown Lutheran Church and attended Fillmore Central Schools, graduating in 2019.

Finn showed a vivid imagination at an early age. He learned quickly how to make any engine run and you could find him on the Eiken farm working on and driving motorcycles, snowmobiles, tractors, lawnmowers, or anything he could get his hands on. Finn really enjoyed the outdoors and spent a lot of time with his dad canoeing, fishing, and hunting mushrooms, to name a few. He also enjoyed kayaking, sailboating, camping, and going to tractor pulls with his grandpa and uncle Denny. Finn almost always wore a layer of grease and gas. The art of baking the best cookies and sharing them with family was one of the ways he cared for those around him. The recipes were in his head, so they will never be duplicated.

Some of the family left behind who will miss him without measure include his parents, paternal grandmother Kathy Ronken and the late Gary Ronken, Sr.; maternal grandparents Ashley Eiken, and Deb Brink (Guenthner) and Ken Bauman; great-grandparents Winifred Eiken and the late Roger Eiken, and Don and Sylvia Brink; and aunts and uncles Joe and Sky Ronken with cousins Owen and Aden, Rebecca and Matt Jacobson and cousin Colton, Dennis Eiken and Carmen Walter and cousins Gregory Eiken and Scarlet Colsch, Christine Eiken and cousin Ashton Newman. Finn had several second cousins and great-aunts and uncles who are very special, too.  Along with blood family, there are many special friends that were like brothers to Finn.

And most important, his son, Silas Ronken, who brought the most joy to Finn and special friend and mother to Silas, Kristen Sager, and his dog Greta and cat Kevin.

A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 26, at the Henrytown Lutheran Church in rural Canton.  Memorials can be directed to the family at 17208 371st Ave., Canton, Minn., 55922 for a memorial for Finn and establishing a trust account for Silas.

The Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel is assisting with arrangements.
