On August 11, Sabian Enrique Coto, 29, of Rochester, appeared before District Court Judge Jeremy Clinefelter. Coto is charged with Felony Domestic Assault – Commits Act with Intent to Cause Fear, a violation that carries a maximum criminal penalty of five years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine. On or about April 27, a Fillmore County Sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to a residence in Spring Valley for an active domestic disturbance. The defendant allegedly spit in a victim’s face and physically tried to intimidate including pushing the victim. Coto has multiple prior convictions including for Felony and Misdemeanor Domestic Assault, two Fifth Degree Assaults, and two DANCO violations.
On August 11, Peter Jay Engen, 48, of Preston, appeared before District Court Judge Jeremy Clinefelter. Engen is charged with Felony Domestic Assault – Intentionally Inflicts or Attempts to Inflict Bodily Harm, a violation with a maximum criminal penalty of five years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine. On or about March 30, a Preston Police deputy was dispatched for a domestic disturbance. The reported victim was allegedly pushed by their mother’s boyfriend (Engen) and slammed against a wall. A witness alleged the victim was the verbal aggressor but the defendant the physical aggressor. Engen has three prior Felony Domestic Abuse – Order for Protection violations in Freeborn County.
On August 11, Quran Marshawn Khalifa Bennett, 39, of Rochester, appeared before District Court Judge Jeremy Clinefelter. Bennett is charged with Possess Ammo/Any Firearm – Conviction or Adjudicated Delinquent for Crime of Violence, a felony with a maximum criminal penalty of 15 years in prison and/or a $30,000 fine. On or about June 27, a Fillmore County Sheriff’s investigator and the Southeast Minnesota Violent Crime Enforcement team assisted an Olmsted County Sheriff’s investigator with the execution of a search warrant in the city of Chatfield (the address listed on Bennett’s driver’s license). A Taurus handgun was found, one with DNA matching Bennett’s. Bennett is ineligible to have a firearm per six past convictions or adjudications for Possession or Sale of a Controlled Substance.
On August 11, Nicholas Andrew Luna, 37 of Chatfield, appeared before District Court Judge Jeremy Clinefelter. Luna is charged with First Degree Damage to Property – Value Reduced Over $1,000. It is a felony with a maximum criminal penalty of five years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine. On or about May 18, a Fillmore County Sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to a domestic disturbance in rural Chatfield. Amidst a domestic fight, the defendant allegedly grabbed a victim’s phone and broke it and he allegedly also damaged the victim’s car. The defendant admitted to doing both. The broken phone cost $1,000 when new and the victim bought a replacement for $200. The estimated cost of fixing the vehicle was $1,514.32.
On August 11, Ashley Rose McConnell, 40, of Spring Valley, appeared before District Court Judge Jeremy Clinefelter. McConnell is charged with two Domestic Assault Felonies – Intent to Cause Fear of Bodily Harm and Inflicts or Attempts to Inflict Bodily Harm. Each carries a maximum criminal penalty of five years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine. On or about May 25, a Fillmore County Sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to a home in Spring Valley for an alleged 911 hang up. McConnell allegedly hit the victim (a pregnant minor) with a thrown dust pan, grabbed her hair, and also threatened to light her on fire and slit her throat. McConnell has three qualified domestic violence-related convictions within the past 10 years.
