At the June 11 meeting of the county board, Lindsi Engle, Human Resources officer, asked the board to consider a new part-time position in the Recorder’s Office and a new full-time position for Public Health.
Engle explained the Recorder’s Office is handling a lot of new and changing tasks. Currently working in that office are Recorder Roxane Kraling, a full-time account technician, and a half-time technician who is responsible for abstracts. The new 0.5-0.8 FTE accounting position was approved as recommended by the Personnel Committee. Approval was granted to advertise internally and externally for the new accounting technician position.
The Personnel Committee recommended the addition of the position of community health specialist to the Public Health department. The state legislature allocated funding for counties to create this position last year.
The community health specialist will strive to reduce disease and injuries through planning, implementing strategies, projects, and programs. The specialist will keep the public informed about public health issues and strive to improve access to health care. Also, the specialist will be tasked with engaging with community partners to promote healthy communities. Approval was granted to advertise internally and externally for a community health specialist.
The temporary employment of Kristi Ruesink was extended through the end of August. Ruesink’s continued temporary employment was recommended by Land Use Director Blake Lea, Administrator Bobbie Hillery, and the Personnel Committee. Ruesink is working about two days per week.
The Land Use department will be extra busy this year with a pending Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW). The project entitled Dabelstein Mine has been proposed by Minnesota Sands, LLC. An EAW is mandatory for the project. Minnesota Sands wants to develop a facility for extraction of industrial silica sand to be used for underground fuel extraction. The proposed project is located in Pilot Mound Township, section 12. Fillmore County will be the regulating government unit.
Other Business in Brief
• Approval was granted for the purchase of a copy machine for the Social Services Adult Team at a cost of $5,278. Social services director Wanda Berg said funding for the copy machine will come out of state funding allocated to better serve vulnerable adults.
