At the October 25 Fillmore Central School Board meeting, Elementary Principal Jim Peters reported that the SPED rooms have had their lighting upgraded to color tuned lights, which allows the colors and brightness of the lights to be adjusted. “They use it every day with the kids,” Peters said. He is currently evaluating the space in the building to find more room that can be utilized for the SPED program as the number of students needing the services are increasing.
Peters noted that homecoming had gone well for the elementary kids. “They really enjoyed it. It’s nice for them to have the opportunity to see the high school kids.”
Superintendent Heath Olstad said that approximately 20 students would be attending the FFA National Convention in Indianapolis next week. Fillmore Central partnered with Lanesboro and Rushford-Peterson to share a coach bus for transportation.
The winter coaches were hired by the board and included Brady O’Connor, Andy Todd, Chad Musel, Alex Scrabeck, and Alex Lange as the boys basketball coaches; Levi Olstad, Jason Schwarz, Kenzie Broadwater, Samantha Bratland, and Kerry Rindels as the girls basketball coaches; Blaise Sass, Phil LaFleur, and Joe Cullen as the wrestling coaches; Joel Pfeffer, Erik Bengston, Bill Ferrie, Jason Hovey, Paul Snell, and Adam Daniels as the wrestling volunteers; Ashley Himli as the dance coach, Grace Himli and Elisha Himli as the dance volunteer asssistants, and Jackie Whitacre as the drama and speech coach. Andrew Pederson was also hired as the weightlifting coach. Domonique Budensiek was hired as the childcare center coordinator, Sheila Heidenwirth as an aide in the daycare, Felicity Lewandowski as a Pre-K aide, Lisa Hadland and Alison Freese as SPED paras, and Jillian Tieskotter as a student aide in SAC. The board approved posting for a SPED teacher due to the high needs and numbers in the elementary level.
The 2022-2023 seniority list was reviewed and approved.
The third quarter donations in the amount of $24,663.41 were accepted with gratitude from the board.
A transfer in the amount of $2,332 from the Milk Assistance Fund to the Milk Break Revenue Account was approved.
A special board meeting was set for November 14 at 7 a.m. in the Preston meeting room to canvass the election results.
Jim Randa will continue to work with the school at the same rate as last year, as he has the required boiler’s chief licensure to oversee the district’s boilers. “We appreciate his dedication to Fillmore Central,” Superintendent Olstad said.
Schwickerts was unable to fix the skylights during the MEA break, as they are still waiting for the parts to come in. As the skylights are not leaking at this time, they will probably fix them in the spring.
The football game for October 25 was canceled as Wabasha-Kellogg forfeited.
The next Fillmore Central School Board meeting will be held on November 22 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.
