The November 13 Fillmore Central School Board meeting opened with the 2023-2024 audit report from Jason Boynton of Smith Schafer. An unmodified clean opinion was issued for the report. Boynton noted that funding for the district is driven by the average daily membership, which has decreased by 50 students overall since 2017. The revenues for the general fund was higher than the expenditures by $1,252,392 in 2024. The council approved the audit report.
Superintendent Heath Olstad reported that the Three Rivers Band and Choir contests were held last week and compliments were received from many attendees. The band and choir directors felt that it was a positive experience for all involved. The winter concert season is coming up soon for both the elementary and high school.
The fall sports season has wrapped up with cross country runner Autumn Rakosnik placing 9th in state, the football team placing as Section 1A runner up, and the volleyball team coming in 4th at the state tournament. The winter sports season is underway.
Thanks were extended to music teacher Mr. Patterson and sixth grade teacher Mrs. Andring and her students for their performances during the Veterans Day program and also to Ron Scheevel for leading the programs at both buildings. Preston Veterans Home director Rob Gross also spoke at both programs.
Positions are still open in the ECFE program for a teacher and a parent educator. Several positions are also available in the Child Care Center. The Preston ECFE will be working with the Mistletoe Market this year rather than a Breakfast with Santa event.
Rick Koch was hired as a full-time custodian.
The board approved the transfer of funds from the Lunch/Milk Assistance fund to the Milk Break revenue account to cover the costs of milk break and healthy snack cart for a number of students at the elementary school.
A resolution authorizing the issuance of certificates of election and directing the school district clerk to perform other election related duties was accepted. The results of the general election and special election referendum question were canvassed and certified by the board.
The board reviewed the annual World’s Best Workforce report. Superintendent Olstad noted that the name of it will be changing soon. The report is a state requirement for districts to set goals and will be posted on the school website and submitted to the state.
Gratitude was expressed to First Southeast Bank for the its donation of over $600 to the milk break fund that had been raised with their Jeans for a Cause program. The bank also donated sweatshirts to the volleyball team for the state tournament and F&M Community Bank donated a team meal.
The December board meeting will begin at 6:01 p.m. to accommodate the annual Truth in Taxation hearing.
