At the July 29 Fillmore Central School Board meeting, Sue Sikkink reviewed the claims with the board and noted that many new student computers have been purchased for the upcoming school year. Board member Aaron Bishop asked what happens to the old ones. Superintendent Heath Olstad said that technology director Aaron Janssen does a good job each year of finding a company that will give something back to the school for the old computers.
The eligibility meeting presentations for the upcoming school year have been sent out electronically to families. The information for the fall sports season has also been distributed. The baseline concussion testing will take place on August 9 and is for anyone who is in fall sports. The Strength and Agility program went well with over 120 students signed up. Thanks were extended to Coach Andrew Pederson and all of the other coaches who volunteered to help run the program. Kindercamp will take place July 30-August 1 and August 6-8. Superintendent Olstad noted that the main gym at the high school has been completely sanded down and is in the process of having the floor redone.
Contracts were approved for K-12 substitute David Broadwater, the daycare staff, 4/5 preschool teacher Cari Ledin, 3/4 preschool teacher Sonia Bockoven, 4/5 preschool aide Mindy Wolfgram, and 3/4 preschool aide Deb Ebner. Contracts were approved for SAC co-coordinators Jessica Bradt and Katie Reistroffer. Bradt will also serve as 4/5 preschool teacher, enrichment coordinator, and interim ECFE coordinator. Tarryn Cherrier was approved as a support staff member for the high school summer school program, and Heidi Kingsley and Tara Morem as support staff for the elementary summer school. Gary Sloan was hired as the volunteer football coach and Morgan Knutson as the seventh grade volleyball coach. Resignations were accepted from One Block at a Time employee JoAnne Peterson and elementary support staff Ava Christopherson.
The board approved the first reading of the board policies which have been revised to match recommendations from the Minnesota School Board Association, or MSBA, and the new requirements from legislature. The policy committee will be breaking them down into sections for further review and revisions as needed and will continue to review them on a regular cycle. The second readings of the 2024-25 K-6, 7-12, Faculty, Paraprofessional, and Coaches handbooks were approved.
The meal prices for adults were approved at $3 for breakfast and $6 for lunch. The healthy snack prices for the elementary school were kept the same at $35 a semester or $70 for the year, as were the milk break prices at $43.75 a semester for students in grades 1-6 and $15 a semester for kindergarten.
A contract with Edmentum was approved which provides online courses for the Alternative Learning Program.
Changes to the One Block at a Time daycare prices and plan were reviewed. Several minor wording changes were made to provide more clarity. A motion to keep the drop-in rate the same as it currently is was approved.
The district’s long-term facilities maintenance plan is required to be submitted to the state by July 31. The board reviewed and approved the plan.
The computer usage fees for the 2024-25 school year were approved. Students in 9-12 grade will pay $45 for the year, 7-8 will be $25 for the year, and there will be no charge for students in K-6 or students who qualify for free and reduced lunches. A school supply fee of $25 per student in K-6 was also approved.
Quarterly donations in the amount of $57,443.93 were accepted with gratitude.
An open enrollment request was approved.
