“We’re going to go by all the state mandates and directives,” Principal Heath Olstad said at the March 24 Fillmore Central School Board meeting, about moving to distance learning. The board met via video conferencing. Olstad noted that the distance learning plan would be on the website later that week and that teachers were working very hard to get it ready. Dean of Students Chris Mensink reported that the MCA testing has been cancelled along with the YAYA conference for third through fifth graders and parent/teacher conferences. Thanks were extended to the Harmony Arts Council for offering the Artist in Residency Program for students in grades K-6. “Congratulations to the girls basketball team on your state appearance and representation,” Mensink said. “That was cut short by COVID-19, but our girls handled themselves very well.”
A resignation from elementary teacher Diane Keith was accepted effective at the end of the current school year. A resignation from lead custodian Bernie Hurley was also approved. “Thank you, Bernie, for many years of service to Fillmore Central,” Superintendent Keith said. The board approved posting for the vacant custodian position.
A contract with Heath Olstad for the superintendent and 7-12 principal position was approved beginning on July 1. An intermittent FMLA leave was approved for Sheryl Barr.
A transfer of $452.50 from the milk assistance fund was approved to cover the cost of milk and snack break for 16 students during the second semester of school. If students do not return to school at all during the fourth quarter, that amount will be cut in half as it will only need to cover the third quarter.
The fees for Region V Computer Services were approved for the 2021 fiscal year.
The board approved a motion to hold all board meetings via telecommunication until further notice per the Minnesota School Board Association’s recommendation.
The next Fillmore Central School Board meeting will be held on April 28 at 6:30 p.m.
