At the April 23rd Fillmore Central School Board meeting, Superintendent Heath Olstad reported that the elementary field trips for kindergarten through sixth grade are starting up soon with lots of fun trips planned for each grade. The fourth graders will have their wax museum on May 3, and the fifth graders will receive trees to plant from Soil and Water Conservation on May 6. MCA testing is ongoing at both the elementary and the high school. Summer Strength and Agility Training is being organized, and the fall sports sign-ups are open.
Emily Hahn Larson was approved as the 5-12 grade band director for the 2024-25 school year, Tim Ostrom as the Summer Rec coordinator, and Logan Walker as a SPED teacher for the upcoming school year. Alex Lange resigned as the boys basketball coach, Karen Skretta as lead teacher at One Block at a Time, Diane Strahl as daycare sub, Sonia Bockoven as ECFE parent coordinator, and Kaitlyn Gross as elementary teacher. A maternity leave was approved for Kaitlyn Steichen. A resolution to terminate the contract of Connie Lindstrom was approved. Amanda Thomas, Jennifer Lindstrom, Connie Berg and Paula Birch were hired as Extended School Year staff.
Chris Mensink was approved as the head football coach, Andrew Pederson as the assistant football coach, Andy Todd as the JV football coach, David Broadwater as the ninth grade football coach, Ty Sloan as the 8th grade football coach, Brady Ristau as the seventh grade football coach, and Kurt Bockoven and Aaron Janssen as the volunteer assistants. Travis Malley was approved as the head volleyball coach, Shelly Topness as the ninth grade volleyball coach, and Hope Sexton at the eighth grade volleyball coach. Brandi Rettick was approved as the cheer coach and Jeremy Plowman as the head boys basketball coach.
The board approved a transition from using Frontline to manage the district’s absence management technology to using Teachers on Call for the service. An agreement with Infinitec for the district to use videos for staff development was approved for the 2024-25 school year. A contract for psychologist services from eLuma was approved. A quote from Athletic Performance Solutions or APS was reviewed by the board for the varsity gym floor at the high school. The floor needs to be sanded, repainted, and finished. The board accepted the quote.
Superintendent Heath Olstad was approved as the identified official with authority to authorize staff to access Minnesota Department of Education secure websites for the district.
Donations for the past quarter in the amount of $63,441.80 were accepted with gratitude.
Sports agreements with Mabel-Canton and Lanesboro were both approved for the upcoming school year.
