Ernest “Ernie” Cambern was born on July 28, 1943, to Daniel and Evelyn (Smith) Cambern in Preston, Minn. Ernie passed away on October 11, 2020.

Ernie was a longtime resident of Preston and loved the community where he met many acquaintances over the years. Ernie worked for many years at Gunderson Motors in Preston and later worked at the laundromat in Preston. For pastimes, Ernie enjoyed trout fishing in Fillmore County and other areas of southeastern Minnesota. He also was a frequent listener of polka music.

Ernie is survived by his nephews Daniel Dean Cambern of Rochester, Randy Cambern of Rochester, Brian Cambern of Murray, Utah, and Darrin (Sarah) Cambern of Fountain; nieces Sheila (Joel) Walbridge of Fountain and Kim (Ken) Anderson; sisters-in-law Marjorie Cambern of Fountain and Leona “Beezie” Cambern of Fountain.

Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Daniel Cambern and Willie Cambern, and an infant sister.

A graveside service led by Pastor Deanna Woodward was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 14, at the Carimona Cemetery in rural Preston, Minn. Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home of Preston assisted with memorial arrangements.

I was very saddened to hear of Ernies passing. My family delivered him papers for many years. He told me quite a few stories of growing up as a boy and stories from around Preston. I enjoyed just talking with him. He is dearly missed. I wanted to send something to the family but wasn’t sure where to send it. I pray that God stays with you during this of sadness.
